Metal Finishing
Our finishing processes refine the appearance and performance of machined parts. Deburring, polishing and surface treatments are applied to remove sharp edges, improve durability and deliver a high-quality finish suited to each application. By combining precision machining with tailored finishing, we ensure components not only meet specification but also offer the longevity and reliability demanded by production environments.
Turning
CNC turning is carried out on our XYZ Proturn lathes, delivering precise diameters, shoulders and threads across steels, stainless alloys and exotic materials. Manual centre lathes complement our CNC capability for one-off and short-run parts. Together, this flexible setup enables us to produce shafts, pins, housings and bespoke components to exacting specifications, all backed by skilled operators and rigorous inspection.
Drilling
We perform drilling operations ranging from large radial-arm setups for heavy components to fine EDM small-hole drilling for intricate features. This breadth allows us to produce coolant holes, dowel holes and deep bores across a wide range of materials with accuracy and repeatability. Combined with our CNC machining centres, our drilling capability supports both standalone requirements and integrated processes within larger tooling projects.
Jig Boring
Our jig boring provides the ultra-precise hole positioning and alignment needed for critical tooling applications. Our Moore 2C borers, enhanced with CNC control and auxiliary high-rise capability, deliver sub-micron accuracy on complex jigs and fixtures. This ensures perfect positional relationships across tool steels, alloys and non-ferrous metals, supporting the tightest tolerances in press tools and precision assemblies.
CNC Milling & Boring
We leverage advanced CNC milling and boring to produce precision features and holes in steels, stainless alloys and non-ferrous metals. Our 3-axis milling fleet (Bridgeport and XYZ bedmills with automated tool-changers) handles profiling and complex contours, while our Correa CF20 & CF22 bed mill/borers perform heavy-duty bore operations up to 700 mm deep. Together with our integrated CAM toolset (VISI Machining, Artisan Ideas Master, Vero Machining Strategist and SmartCAM Freeform) we deliver repeatable accuracy, superb surface finish and rapid turnaround from CAD model to finished component.
Etching
At Alan Spargo Ltd, we employ the SINO-GALVO STJ-50F laser etcher to produce crisp, permanent markings on steels, stainless alloys and non-ferrous materials. Its galvanometer-driven optics enable rapid traversing across workpieces up to sizable plate dimensions, delivering fine text, logos and serial codes without mechanical contact. The result is burr-free, fade-resistant engraving with micron-level precision and repeatable quality across high volumes.
EDM Spark Erosion
We deploy this comprehensive spark-erosion arsenal to machine intricate cavities, fine slots and delicate profiles in hardened tool steels, stainless alloys and exotic materials. Our Roboform 20 centres, with C-axis indexing, plus E110 generators and IsoCut technology, enable electrode creation and complex 3D contours without imparting mechanical stress. The JOEMARS 600 and its small-hole drilling counterpart excel in high-precision EDM drilling, while the Mitsubishi EX22 die-sinker delivers rapid electrode swaps for faster turnaround. Together, they ensure burr-free finishes, taper-free features and consistently tight tolerances.
EDM Wire Erosion
We deploy a quartet of Fanuc EDM wire-erosion centres - two Robocut 2016 machines and two Alpha 1A units - to precisely slice complex geometries and fine contours in tool steels, stainless alloys and exotic materials. Submerged cutting ensures dielectric stability and minimal recast layers, while advanced CNC control delivers taper-free edges and corner radii down to microns. Our capacity suits components up to 600 × 400 mm (Robocut) or 520 × 370 × 400 mm (Alpha 1A), ensuring rapid, burr-free profiling for intricate dies, moulds and precision parts.
Grinding
Our cylindrical grinding capability centres on the Jones & Shipman 1212 grinder supplemented by two Suprema CNC universal grinders for precision round finishes. These deliver micron-level concentricity on shafts, rollers and pins, with automated precision across steels, stainless alloys and non-ferrous metals.
We provide precision surface grinding using four Jones & Shipman 540L, three 540 and two 1400 grinders, each equipped with OptiDress or DiaForm wheel-dressing systems for complex profiles. These are complemented by Okamoto surface grinders (1000 × 500 mm and 600 × 300 mm). All machines are housed in temperature-controlled bays to minimise thermal variation, ensuring consistent, high-accuracy flatness, profiles and surface finishes across steels, stainless alloys and non-ferrous metals, meeting the tightest tolerances for tooling and sub-contract components.
Precision jig grinding is powered by our Moore 2C CNC jig grinder, featuring Heidenhain control for sub-micron positional accuracy, and a fleet of ten further Moore 2C jig grinders complete with all auxiliary attachments and high-rise columns. This setup allows us to grind complex bores, slots and contours in tool steels, stainless alloys and non-ferrous materials with exceptional repeatability, surface finish and concentricity.
CNC Cylindrical Grinding
We harness our Jones & Shipman 1212 cylindrical grinder alongside two Suprema CNC universal grinders to deliver micron-level concentricity on shafts, rollers and pins. By holding work between centres or in chucks, our machines remove material with automated precision, yielding consistent surface finishes across steels, stainless alloys and non-ferrous metals to meet the tightest tolerances.
